Biography
Popularly known as the lovely Baby Spice, Emma Bunton was already a
commercial model at the age of 3. Her fresh face and a bubbly
personality always put her on the spotlight on every occasion. After
winning a modeling search on 1979, Emma then started her career as a
model. She was first seen on TV when she modeled for Mothercare
products. Her career was still beyond reach at that time, but her
career as a model and as one of Britain’s promising young actresses
was beginning to start.
Baby Spice or Emma Lee Bunton was born in north London on January 21,
1976. Her parents separated and remained on her mother’s custody. When
her father went out of their house to start a new life separate from
them was probably one of the most upsetting moments of her life.
Nevertheless, this quite traumatic childhood experience did not stop
this dreamer. She continued her schooling and got active on various
school and community activities. Her years spent at St. Theresa’s
Roman Catholic Primary school were quite typical. However as soon as
she got into Sylvia Young Theater School at the age of 13, her talent
on singing and acting were greatly enhanced. Her almost a year of stay
on that theater school somehow earned her considerable fame and
recognition. At 14, Emma was asked by her parents to leave the theater
school and pursue her normal schooling for they thought that was the
most important thing. She continued her normal schooling, however,
Emma’s innate desire for acting and to be in front of the camera still
haunted her anywhere she went. That is why after finishing her
secondary school, Emma immediately enlisted on a drama school at
Barnet Technical College. Emma also studied karate; and with her
skill, Emma was asked to be part of UK’s top soap Eastenders, where
she played a young stow-away karate student who had a crush on her
teacher.
Already natural in front of the camera, Emma has been one of the
attractions on every show and play she attended. However, it would
still be several years before she met the group whom she would
collaborate with in taking the music industry by storm.
Emma Bunton was still 17 when she joined Britain’s fast rising pop
sensation, ‘Spice Girls.’ Each of them was given specific identity by
their album producers, with each label presents every member’s most
notable characteristics. Geri Estelle Halliwell, was the Sexy Spice;
Melanie Janine Brown, the Scary Spice; Victoria Adams as “Posh Spice;”
Melanie Jayne Chisholm got the Sporty Spice name; and Emma Lee Bunton
got herself the Baby Spice name for her bubbly and charming
personality. And the rest was history. After producing Billboard chart
topping hits and selling millions of copies of their albums worldwide,
a new stage of their life as a group took place.
In early 1998, Ginger dropped bomb when she decided to go out solo.
The reason is not so clear, though the remaining Spices respected
their sister’s decision. The four remaining spices released their
first single in "Viva Forever" which hit No.1 in the U.K. At the MTV
Europe Music Awards, they accepted four awards for Best Group and Best
New Pop Album with a ginger-less group. Emma thought that the split up
was best for both sides. It was not later when the remaining four
members decided to pack up and call it a day. They all decided to
pursue their career as solo performer.
Emma started her career as a solo performer at the dawn of the new
century. Emma’s first album was quite a success. Some of her songs
still hit the airwaves and her fans are still loyal to her. Her
popularity still surges up to now, though it wouldn't have been nearly
as successful if not for the absolute fame and recognition she enjoyed
while fronting one of Britain's biggest pop/rock phenomenon during the
90’s. The first single from her album, A Girl Like Me, "What Took You
So Long?" made it to number one in Billboard chart during its first
week of release in mid-April, sustaining a two week reign. She was the
only Spice Girl to have her solo single stay at number one for more
than one week. Her success continued in 2003 with singles, “Maybe” and
“Free Me.” The classy yet natural voice helped her a lot for the
success of her third hit, "I'll Be There," in 2004.
Emma’s influence on music was Madonna; in fact she loved imitating the
icon’s personality even during her childhood days. She dressed up and
even imitates her voice when she performing in front of her friends.
She also has a tattoo on her body, though until know, the exact
location of where to find this tattoo is still to be found. However,
it was sure that she had her tattoo done in Los Angeles, California on
a famous tattoo studio.
Right now, Emma lives with her mom Pauline and with her brother Robert
whom she spends quality time with. She has a mini studio in their
house where she also spends time with, singing her songs and writing
her own music. She’s planning to record her next album soon.
