Biography
Born Denise Lee Richards, she was raised by her parents Irv and Joni
in the Chicago, Illinois until she was 15 when the family was
relocated to Oceanside, California. She completed her eight grade at
Herrick Junior High School and attended her first year in high school
at Tinley Park both in Illinois. She had no choice but to transfer to
another school from the time they were relocated so she pursued her
high school years at El Camino High School in Oceanside, 25 miles
north of San Diego, California.
Soon after she graduated from El Camino, her modeling career took off.
She posed for some Tokyo and Paris magazines. Denise had also made
some commercials. It is interesting to know that the first product
endorsement she made was a lip gloss (Bonne Bell) which compliments
with her taunting lips, in fact during her childhood days she was
nicknamed “Fish Lips” and often teased by her classmates and friends.
But her plumping lips paired with flashing eyes of emerald green and
gorgeous body completed a stunning personality and is definitely
cruising her way to the high shelves.
Denise was 17 when she first hit the TV screen, casting as a beauty
contestant in 1989’s Life Goes On. In 1990, a resident from Melrose
Place named Patrick Muldoon was so stunned with her beauty when he saw
her in an acting class. Until the two were introduced and kept their
company, that was the start of a 10 year relationship with him. The
next year, she appeared in Saved by the Bell and Married with
Children. Then in 1992, she was cast at Eerie, Indiana. In 1993, she
appeared in two TV shows and Bodies of Evidence and the series Against
the Grain. Also in the same year, she had a guest appearance in
Seinfeld on “The Shoes” episode. In 1994, she appeared in TV’s Lois
and Clark.
Her numerous TV roles gave way to her first film debut in an
action/comedy National Lampoon’s Loaded Weapon in 1993 where she
played the role of Cindy#1. It was then followed by a lead role in
Tammy and the T-Rex playing the role of Tammy in 1994. Also in that
same year, she played the role of Elizabeth in a drama film Lookin’
Italian.
In the year 1995 to 1996, more TV followed like 919 Fifth Avenue and
PCH in 95 then Weird Science, Pier 66 and Blink of an Eye in 96. Her
major break came in 1997 where she played the role of Carmen Ibanez
teaming up with Muldoon as Zander Barcalow in their battle against
alien bugs for survival in “Starship Troopers.” It has a successful
turn-out, grossing to $54 million. Not to forget the fact that she was
teamed up with her boyfriend. As a result, her fans grew in numbers.
In 1998, she was teamed up with Neve Campbell, Matt Dillon and Kevin
Bacon in the Crime/Thriller “Wild Things.” You have to see that famous
kiss with Neve where people found it so obscene and it became
talk-of-the-town. It’s almost a year after the movie was released but
the press and the people are still talking about it. Denise was so
insulted with some negative humors and explained that there’s nothing
wrong when two women kiss. She also admitted that her parents are two
of her observant fans but never criticized what she did. She also said
during an interview that she hoped his father will close his eyes
whenever she had breast exposures.
The same persons who criticized her infamous ménage à trois scene were
less revved up in her underwear-clad cat fight with Kirsten Dunst in
1999’s “Drop Dead Gorgeous.” Also in this year, she performed Wendy in
“Tail Lights Fade” with an action/comedy/drama genre where the plot
was about a relay race to bail out a brother in jail who is charged of
marijuana usage. What is more exciting in this year is her role of Dr.
Christmas Jones in the highly acclaimed James Bond Flick, “The World
is Not Enough.” Film critic Robert Ebert was so amazed by Denise’s
performance as a Bond girl and gave her two thumbs up together with
her bombshell lead Sophie Marceau. Unlike some of the recent British
Super Spy’s, Denise is in no danger of becoming a victim to the Bond
Babe Bermuda Triangle.
She started filming in the mid months of 2000 until another two films
were released in 2001. First was a horror-thriller entitled
“Valentine” where she played the role of Paige Prescott and a
comedy-romance “Good Advice” playing the role of Cindy and teaming up
with Charlie Sheen. Her being a girlfriend to Ryan Turner (played by
Sheen) turned out to be a real life romance when they began dating in
2001, got engaged in Christmas and then married in 2002.
That same year, Denise appeared in more films like action-drama
“Empire” playing the role of Trish, action-comedy “Undercover Brother”
portraying as a white she-devil, the romance film “You Stupid Man”
teaming up with David Krumholtz and Milla Jovovich and a comedy flick
“The Third Wheel” teaming up with Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Luke Wilson
and more.
In 2003, she made two more films which include: “Love Actually”
playing the role of Carla the friendly one; and “Scary Movie 3” as
Annie in this comedy-horror film. Three more films are done by Denise
in 2004 including a Rated R Spanish film with English translation “Yo
Puta” or “Whore” in US. The other three films include: the
comedy-romance “Elvis has left the Building” playing the role of
Belinda and teaming up with Sean Astin, Kim Basinger, and Richard
Barela; and the comedy “Fat Albert” written by Bill Cosby. Denise also
performed in TV in 2004 in a romance-comedy “I Do (But I Don’t) where
she played as Lauren, a divorced wedding planner where she fell in
love with Dean Cain…the groom-to-be.
Upcoming projects for the actress include “Edmond,” teaming up with
Wiliam Macy and Julia Stiles. At present, she is creating her own
website and wishes to run it soon. Her popularity was well-endowed
with simplicity and down-to-earth personality. This is an example of a
model-turned-actor who kept her feet on the ground and remained calm
and professional in spite of the odds in her marriage.
