Biography
The hit movie The Mask (1994) totally unmasked Cameron Diaz and
brought her into the spotlight. Although a lot of people thought of
her as another pretty face without anything else to show but beauty,
she proved them wrong by winning into more roles and taking acting
lessons to improve in her new craft. Cameron used to be a model and
has graced many different products like Calvin Klein, Levi’s, Nivea,
LA Gear, and Coca Cola. Her pretty face has also been in popular
magazines like Seventeen and Mademoiselle.
Cameron Diaz was born on August 30, 1972 in San Diego, California to
parents of mixed heritages. Her father, Emilio, was a second
generation Cuban American and her mother, Billie, is of Native
American, German, and Italian lineage. Her father worked in an oil
company and her mother was a broker. She had a sister named Chimene.
Cameron used to be a skinny girl and was even nicknamed Skeletor. She
dreamt of becoming a zoologist and kept pet animals. Her growing years
were spent in Long Beach where she finished schooling until High
School. She attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School and was
schoolmates with Snoop Doggy Dogg and John Wayne.
Cameron did not have girly girl tastes when she was growing up.
Instead, she was fond of Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, and rock music. She
was also the sporty type and danced for her school’s football games
during half times. At sixteen, she was already partying in Hollywood
and was already looking more of a lady than a teenager. Fate brought
that she happened to meet Jeff Dunas, a famous photographer. She was
soon working for the esteemed Elite modeling agency and landed a stint
as an advertiser for Teen Magazine.
Still at her teenage years, Cameron was able to go abroad. Her work
has brought her to Japan, Paris, Morocco, and Australia before going
back home to California.
Cameron auditioned for a part in The Mask and was cast as Tina
Carlyle, Jim Carrey’s leading lady. Without any acting experience to
back her up, Cameron continued to receive movie roles and offers from
well-known film makers in Hollywood. After The Mask, she continued
landing in roles like Mortal Combat (where she lost the role to
Gabrielle Anwar due to an injury), The Last Supper, Feeling Minnesota
where she starred with Keanu Reeves, Head Above Water with Harvey
Keitel, and She’s The One with Ed Burns and Jennifer Aniston.
Cameron’s next film that achieved international success was My Best
Friend’s Wedding. Although she was not in the lead role, she starred
opposite Hollywood superstar Julia Roberts. She played as the sweet
and almost perfect bride to be. Julia as her groom to be’s best friend
who tried to steal her man away from her. She also starred in the
comedy There’s Something About Mary with funny man Ben Stiller and
Matt Dillon. Dillon and Cameron used to go out but had a hard time
keeping it because they were “geographically separated” – one was in
the East coast while the other was based in the West.
One of Cameron’s biggest breaks was the Charlie’s Angels movie where
she was cast together with Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu. And her
Charlie’s Angels days did not end there because she was soon playing
in the sequel to Part 1. And this time Charlie’s Angels Part 2 gave
her the chance to star with the beautiful Demi Moore. Cameron also
starred in the Martin Scorsese film, Gangs of New York where she
played as Leonardo DiCaprio’s love interest. She also took a shot for
voice talents and was the voice of Princess Fiona for the animated
movie Shrek.
Although she isn’t married yet, Cameron Diaz also has her stories of
love. Aside from her relationship with Matt Dillon, she also had a
five year relationship with Carlos dela Torre and lived together
during those five years. Then she had an on and off relationship with
Jared Leto until news came out that they were engaged.
Throughout her Hollywood career, Cameron Diaz has amassed almost a
hundred million dollars for her blockbuster movies and is definitely
one of Hollywood’s top paid actresses of today. She still keeps that
simple girl side when she enjoys her favorite serving of Egg McMuffins
and French fries. She also has her own restaurant in Miami called
Bambu.
