Destiny has really been very good to Destiny’s Child member and
founder Beyonce Knowles. This girl has been in and out of the music
hit charts and has received numerous awards for her singing prowess.
Beyonce was born Beyonce Giselle Knowles on September 4, 1981. She is
a Houston, Texas native and has started establishing a performing
career at the early age of seven. She auditioned for a role in a child
singing group with her cousin Kelly Rowland, and two other members
namely LeToya Luckett and Latavia Roberson. Then in 1990, her father
and manager, Matthew, formed the group called Destiny’s Child
consisting of the four of them. They started out with small
performances until they got their chance when they performed in Star
Search. Since then they have been called Destiny’s Child and started
to do front acts for bigger names like SWV, Immature, and Dru Hill. In
1997, the group recorded a song for the movie “Men in Black”. Then
they recorded their self titled album and have sold more than a
million copies all over the world. Their other hit songs made its way
to the Billboard Charts under the R&B singles chart. These three songs
were Jumpin, Jumpin, Say My Name, and Bills, Bills, Bills. But the
rising popularity was not all; the group had to part bitterly, leaving
only Beyonce and her cousin Kelly, to go on. The parting was somewhat
untimely and even resulted in a lawsuit. But Beyonce had to get back
up and take charge and in 2000, Destiny’s Child ahs a new member –
Michelle Williams. In 2001, the group started recording for another
album and their hit single “Survivor” had gone platinum in just a
matter of weeks after its release garnering to a sales of less than
ten millions copies worldwide. With the group’s combined powerful
voices, harmony, and sexy appearance, they were one girl group who was
really making its way to the top in a short span of time.
Beyonce is not only a good singer but she is also a talented
songwriter and has proven this by writing and co-writing a lot of
songs in their albums. She has even produced some of them like
Bootylicious, Nasty Girl, Independent Women, Happy Face, and Apple Pie
a la mode. And her talent did not go unrewarded and unnoticed, Beyonce
received the 2001 ASCAP Pop Songwriter of the Year award and she was
the first African-American woman to receive such honor. More awards
came flooding in for Beyonce after that. That same year, Destiny’s
Child won two Grammy awards namely Best R&B song for Say My Name and
Best R&B performance, again for Say My Name. The group has also
performed in a number of high profile events and worldwide concerts
and tours.
But Beyonce has also decided to prove her own worth outside a group
and as an individual artist. That is why she recorded and produced a
solo album with the help of her supportive father and with the
collaboration of some of the big time musical artists of today like
Missy Elliot, her beau Jay-Z, Rich Harrison, Fanatic, Scott Storch,
Sean Paul, Mark Batson, Mario Winans, D-Roy and Mr. B, Big Boi, , and
Luther Vandross. And the product of this hard work was her album
entitled, “Dangerously In Love” that contained more chart-topping and
lively songs.
Beyonce also has more to show besides singing. She has been an image
model and endorser of some popular brands like Pepsi Cola and L’Oreal.
She also stands as L’Oreals spokesperson. Her beautiful face has
graced a lot of magazine covers and commercials as well. And aside
from advertising, she has also tried the silver screen. Beyonce
starred in MTV’s 2001 production of Carmen. Then in 2002, she appeared
as Foxy Cleopatra in the movie Austin Powers Goldmember. She was Mike
Myers’ love interest. Then in 2003, she starred opposite to Cuba
Gooding, Jr. in Fighting Temptations.
With all the awards and citations that she has received, Beyonce is
still continuing to improve her craft and expanding more of her
talents. She is definitely of the most celebrated multi-talented
artists of today.
